Whisper of the Heart

August 13, 2007 at 2:53 am (Country roads take me home, Japanese animation, John Denver, Mimi wo sumaseba, Olivia Newton-John, Studio Ghibli, Whisper of the Heart, Yoshifumi Kondo, Youko Honna)

I was feeling kind of down tonight, after a hard day of work, so I wanted to watch something a little lighthearted. I found this animated movie called Whisper of the Heart. I’ve always been a fan of Japanese animation and it started with Sailor Moon.

It’s a very cute movie and the main theme song is quite catchy. The funniest part is listening to them trying to pronounce “Country Road.”

The song in the following video is the opening song to the movie. Or at least I think it’s Olivia Newton John singing it.

And good ole’ John Denver singing it.

Now I’m not a fan of country music by any means, but this song is cool. I think it would make a great rock song, too.

Tao Te Ching
Stanza 21

It lies in the nature of Grand Virtue

To follow the Tao and the Tao alone.

Now what is the Tao?

It is Something elusive and evasive.

Evasive and elusive!

And yet It contains within Itself a Form.

Elusive and evasive!

And yet It contains within Itself a Substance.

Shadowy and dim!

And yet it contains within Itself a Core of Vitality.

The Core of Vitality is very real,

It contains within Itself an unfailing Sincerity.

Throughout the ages Its Name has been preserved

In order to recall the Beginning of all things.

How do I know the ways of all things at the Beginning?

By what is within me.

How much is your diamond ring worth?

July 6, 2007 at 3:19 am (deBeers, Diamonds, History, Jewelry, monopoly, Oppenheimer, scam, semi-precious)

How much is your diamond engagement ring really worth?

This is a very important documentary to watch if you ever plan on getting married and wishing to receive or to buy a diamond ring. Or, if your already have one, you might realize it has more of a sentimental value, rather than something worth a lot of money.
Now, I love blue diamonds…. but after watching this, I think I might stick to precious stones that have real value, like sapphires and emeralds, for example. đŸ™‚

The Diamond Empire: Oppenheimer family’s cartel, Artificial scarcity (1994)

De Beers is able to create an artificial scarcity of diamonds through its wholly-owned Central Selling Organization (CSO), thus keeping prices high.

A cartel is a group of formally independent producers whose goal is to increase their collective profits by means of price fixing, limiting supply, or other restrictive practices.
